What Kind of Flooring is Best for a Retail Store? If you’re buying a retail store in the Florida Keys, here’s what you need to know about the types of flooring that might be best.

What Kind of Flooring is Best for a Retail Store?

The answer to that question depends on the type of traffic you expect in your store. Are you going to have a large amount of open floor space or aisles between your displays? In any retail store, resistance to wear and tear should always be a high priority when you start to look at what’s available for flooring.
So, what are your choices?
The most common – and some say the best – types of flooring for a retail store include:

  • Terrazo
  • Luxury vinyl tile
  • Quarry tiles
  • Carpet
  • Linoleum
  • Polished concrete

Terrazo

The most hard-wearing commercially available flooring is Terrazzo. It is one of the most versatile inasmuch as it’s ideal for incorporating your company logos and motifs into your floor. It’s also one of the most expensive in terms of price-per-square-foot.

Luxury Vinyl Tile

Over the past ten years, or so, luxury vinyl tile, or LVT, has increased in popularity due to its durability in high-traffic areas. It comes in a variety of sizes, colors, styles, and designs and has prices to suit every budget.

Quarry Tiles

Quarry tile will outlast many other flooring materials, as long as it is installed the correct way and cleaned and maintained throughout its lifetime. It is cost-effective, long-lasting and easily kept in good condition, but it doesn’t give you as many design alternatives. You can either have it laid in straight lines or on the diagonal—not very imaginative, but it will do the job.

Carpet

Commercial grade carpeting has always been one of the most popular floor coverings. It can be installed in 12 feet wide broadloom or you could opt for modular carpet tiles. You could give your floor a modern look with a geometric herringbone pattern. Carpet tiles are also easier to replace if any of it gets damaged.

Linoleum

You can’t go wrong with linoleum. It’s been around forever, or so it seems, but gone are the days of boring, plain colors, and that awful smell it used to have when it first gets laid. Nowadays linoleum offers you a variety of colors, styles, patterns and you can even get inlaid designs incorporating your logo.

Polished Concrete

Chances are your store will have a concrete floor, so why not have it polished? A great alternative to tile and terrazzo is polished concrete. You can have the whole floor colored using dyes, and finished with non-slip matte, satin or gloss topcoats. Cleaning is a breeze, just sweep and mop clean with any household detergent.
