It will also impact your ability to keep on hand the supplies that you need. You should choose kitchen features with care to save yourself years of hassle and ease the stress on your managers and workers, and here are some of the most important features that you should look for.
1. A Layout With Two Doors
The best restaurant kitchens have two doors that waitstaff, bussers, and managers can walk through to prevent congestion and mishaps. Ideally, staff can walk in one door with the dish-washing station nearby so that they can drop off dirty plates, glassware, and utensils. The other door should be for leaving the kitchen only so that servers carrying trays of food to be delivered to guests can leave without worrying that they’ll run into someone coming into the kitchen.
2. Cooler, Freezer, and Dry Storage
Assess how much space you’ll need to store at least a few weeks of food in the cooler and freezer. If you’re thinking about buying a property that already has built-in coolers and freezers, you can install more, but you’ll need the square footage. You should also be able to store at least a month’s worth of dry goods.
3. Appliances
When you’re looking at existing properties that were already restaurants, you might find some that come with some of the major appliances, such as stoves, burners, and fryers. If you’re thinking about purchasing one of these building, check the condition of the appliances. If most of them are old and in poor condition, you will need to replace them, so you might not be saving any money.
4. Stainless Steel Prep Tables
Restaurant kitchens need to be easy to clean and sanitize, and you’ll need plenty of stainless steel countertops where your cooks can prepare the food. Not only should you have prep areas for the cooks, but you’ll also need plenty of counter space for servers to box up guests leftovers. The countertops should also have plenty of storage underneath for condiment bottles, salt and pepper shakers, crackers, and other items that servers can put together themselves rather than asking the cooks to do it.
