Key West is packed full of beautiful sites, exhilarating activities, amazing dining and much more. With more people taking micro-cations than full week-long vacations, many Key West visitors want to know which attractions in Key West are must-see attractions. Here are five of the most beloved things to see in Key West.
Duval Street in Key West isn’t exactly one attraction, it’s more like an attraction full of attractions. This is Key West’s main tourist strip. You will find great dining and friendly merchants as well as historic homes. Duval Street goes from Mallory Square to the marker for the Southernmost Point of the United States. The Conch Tour Train visits Duval Street, if you’re more interested in seeing it than becoming fully immersed into it.
Key West Butterfly and Nature Conservatory
The Key West Butterfly and Nature Conservatory is a one of a kind experience. It’s not just butterflies that you will find here though, you will also find exotic birds and vibrant plants. The butterflies are everywhere though, so it’s one of the most popular Key West tourist attractions. You’ll find this on Duval Street, so be sure to check in!
Ernest Hemingway Home and Museum
The Ernest Hemingway Home and Museum is an 1851 Spanish Colonial house. Hemingway lived in it for nearly a decade in the 1930s. It has a saltwater pool which contains what Hemingway said was his last penny pressed into the concrete. He claimed the pool was that expensive! Inside the home, you can see a collection of 17th-century and 18th-century furniture that was a collection of the author’s. This historic home is located on Whitehead Street in Key West.
The Dry Tortugas
The Dry Tortugas National Park is actually found 65 miles southwest of Key West. Excursions to the Dry Tortugas archipelago all leave from Key West. If headed out to the Dry Tortugas, prepare for a day of snorkeling. Lunch is generally included in the package to the park.
Mallory Square actually used to be a warehouse area, but it’s now one of the most popular free attractions in Key West. There’s plenty of entertainment and people gather around toward the end of the day to watch the sun go down over the Gulf. The place is full of entertainers and street performers. Plus you’ll find the Key West Sponge Market and other shops.
